724 Solutions Unveils X-treme MMS Accelerator, Enabling New Multimedia Messaging Revenues for Mobile Network Operators
XMA is ideal for bursty, perishable bulk multimedia application-to-peer messaging.
Santa Barbara, CA and Cannes, France - (February 24, 2004) - 724 Solutions (NASDAQ: SVNX; TSX: SVN), a leading provider of next-generation IP-based network and data services, today at the 3GSM tradeshow announced the debut of its X-treme MMS Accelerator (XMA), a powerful new software solution that enables mobile operators to generate new revenue growth from high volume, perishable, bulk multimedia messages. With the introduction of this unique solution, mobile network operators can now reliably send large volumes of application-to-peer (A2P) bulk Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) notifications from Value Added Service Providers (VASPs) to end-user subscribers. XMA, part of 724's X-treme Mobility Suite, maximizes the potential of A2P MMS content as a differentiator and revenue generator for mobile operators.
Current MMS infrastructure is designed for steady-state peer-to-peer (P2P) messaging traffic and has severe limitations when dealing with peak volumes of time-sensitive, perishable messaging traffic. Application-to-peer subscription-based multimedia messaging services such as multicasts of slide shows of sports scoring events, breaking news video clips, new downloadable game releases, infotainment or mobile marketing can be very time sensitive and bursty. XMA is specifically designed and optimized to address those issues. XMA uniquely delivers burst capacity for perishable A2P multimedia messages while being compatible with current MMS infrastructure and transparent to individual subscribers.
"Despite solid growth in peer-to-peer MMS, application-to-peer content will become an increasingly important catalyst for MMS adoption over the next few years," said Linda Barrabee, Senior Analyst for the Yankee Group. "A2P and other third party premium content stand to add significant value to both the diversity and richness of the mobile data experience."
"Innovative multimedia content will continue to increase the attractiveness and value of mobile data services, thus driving the adoption of such services by the mass market consumer," said Russ Green, Vice President of Development, 724 Solutions. "XMA enables mobile network operators to confidently offer these high-value application-to-peer bulk messaging services, increasing data ARPU and subscriber loyalty."
Built for Volume
724's XMA is built on a durable, robust platform that has been proven to support large-scale messaging systems. Its bulk delivery capability easily handles the bursty traffic associated with large amounts of time-sensitive commercial information.
XMA's unique architecture detects and gives precedence to prioritized (VASP-provided) vs. non-prioritized (e.g., P2P) MMS content. The application intercepts traffic from content providers, optimally caching the device-adapted MMS content for multiple recipients, delivering MMS notifications via the fastest possible route and then efficiently delivering the MMS content upon retrieval, while normal MMS traffic is delivered routinely.
Increased Value
XMA's unique architecture means the software fits seamlessly into an operator's existing MMS environment, with no reprovisioning of handsets, of content providers, or of other network elements required. XMA supports MMS MM7 (SOAP/XML) for easy reception and delivery of multimedia content, and is readily customizable to emphasize proprietary services.
