724 Solutions Extends Linux Support to its X-treme Alerts Platform

Move by leading mobile network infrastructure provider lowers total cost of ownership, increases flexibility for Mobile Operators; 724's X-treme Mobility Suite now 100 % available on Linux

Santa Barbara, CA - (December 15, 2003) - 724 Solutions (NASDAQ: SVNX; TSX: SVN), a leading provider of next-generation IP-based network and data services, announced today that it is now offering its X-treme Alerts Platform (XAP) on open-source Linux. This latest version of XAP, available in both hosted and in-house deployments, increases performance and significantly reduces total cost of ownership for mobile network operators.

The XAP is an actionable alerting platform solution that allows mobile operators to easily send highly personalized, permission-based Short Message Service (SMS) and/or Multimedia Message Service (MMS) alerts to subscribers.

"724 Solutions has a track record of staying ahead of emerging trends in the industry," says Russ Green, Vice President of Development of 724 Solutions. "Based on the heightened level of interest in the Linux environment among our customers, we've taken these proactive steps to ensure that operators have the most competitive, functional, and adaptive solutions with the broadest range of operating system choices to meet their needs for data services marketplace."

Many operators are expanding their use of Linux; by having an open-source licensed option available, acquisition and maintenance costs are reduced significantly-typically around 60 to 70%. By offering both hosted and licensed versions of the XAP, 724 is providing mobile network operators with the flexibility to choose the best, cost-effective option for their alerts deployment. For mobile network operators opting for a hosted solution, 724's XAP's use of Linux delivers significant cost advantages by easing ongoing operational expenses and eliminating up-front capital outlays, at the same time preserving a migration path, if desired, to a licensed platform.

Mobile network operators use 724's XAP to increase Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) through the delivery of highly personalized, time-sensitive alerts that include news, sports scores, and other premium content as well as downloads of ring tones, games, music and graphics. Additionally, the XAP can be used to stimulate adoption of SMS/telephony voting applications, by prompting the subscriber to cast a vote.

With this announcement, 724 Solutions' entire X-treme Mobility Suite of products are available on traditional UNIX platforms and Linux, including its X-treme Mobility Gateway (XMG), X-treme Service Activity Manager (XSAM) and now XAP.

The X-treme Mobility Suite provides a complete next generation data network solution for enabling differentiated, personalized premium data services. XMG is 724's highly scalable and fault-tolerant wireless WAP 2.0 gateway. XSAM is a workflow engine that helps speed the deployment and management of wireless data services from third-party content providers. XAP is 724's actionable alerting platform.
